Maddalena Calderoni followed her diploma in singing by taking master classes with singers and conductors such as Shirley Verrett, Mirella Freni, Fiorenza Cossotto, Simone Alaimo, Donatella Saccardi and Paola Romanò. She won a prize at the “Valentino Bucchi” International Competition for 20th century vocal music, and won the 3rd “Città di Savigliano” International Competition. She has performed in major concert halls and renowned Italian opera houses, such as the Teatro Morlacchi of Perugia, the Teatro “La Cavallerizza” of Modena, the Teatro Regio of Parma, the Teatro “Grande” of Brescia, the Teatro “Ponchielli” of Cremona, the Teatro “Fraschini” of Pavia and the Teatro Comunale of Como. She has also sung abroad, in Portugal, Germany, Spain, Lebanon, Korea, Japan and the United States. She has appeared in productions conducted by Bruno Bartoletti, Donato Renzetti, and Renato Palumbo and produced by Liliana Cavani, Lamberto Puggelli, Maurizio Schmidt and Stefano Monti. She was in the production of “Carmen” in opera houses in the Veneto Region (Padua, Adria, Lonigo).
In November and December 2003 she performed in “Cavalleria Rusticana” in opera houses in Lombardy. In 2004 she toured Argentina, appearing at the Teatro Argentino in La Plata and the Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires. In 2006/2007 she changed her repertoire to that of dramatic soprano, appearing in Germany in a series of concerts with the Menuhin Festival Piano Quartet, and was in the cast of Gianni Schicchi at the Friedberg Musiksommer Festival with the Chamber Orchestra of the Stuttgart Radio, singing with the great tenor Giuseppe Giacomini and with Simone Alaimo, Miroslav Dvorsky, Vincenzo La Scola and Michele Pertusi.
In March 2009 she was in the cast of the world premiere of the opera “Jacques” conducted by Marco Boni and produced by Stefano Monti, for the Fedora prize, of which she is the artistic director. Since 2009 she has regularly held master classes in Japan, and performs in concerts in Osaka.
In 2010 she took part in the world premiere of the opera “Gelsomino nel paese dei bugiardi”, again with Stefano Monti and Marco Boni. She has continued with her recitals abroad, and appeared at the Venice Dance Biennale as the solo voice in the opening performance of “Oxygen”; for this occasion Ismael Ivo, the great choreographer and producer of the Biennale, commissioned some original compositions for solo voice from her.
